New kicks.

After my homemade granola breakfast, I laced up my running shoes and set out on a 4.5 mile loop around the Charles River. I use Gmaps pedometer to calculate my distance. According to my iphone which I use to time myself (not very exact, I know) it took me 43 minutes. I had to stop at a lot of lights between here and the river so I would take out maybe 2-3 minutes. This puts me at about a 9:15 minute mile give or take a little. I am feeling good about this pace and think that I might be able to improve it a bit more before the race. I am used to running more like a 8:15-8:30 pace so it’s hard to be slower but I know that it’s better for me to heal than to be quick. After the run I quickly changed and grabbed my mat for an hour session of Yoga. The “Hour of Power” as they call it was awesome. We got the important stuff in and it went by really quick which was good because I had a lot on my list today! A honey crisp apple was consumed right when I left.

I hopped on the bus which took me to Washington Square where I purchased some new running shoes! I had an epiphany on my run this morning. Maybe new shoes would help me. The last time my hip REALLY hurt in April I got new shoes and it helped immensely. DUH. Why didn’t I think of that. My old ones are so gross I am not even going to picture them on here but I will proudly show you my new ones!

I picked these up at Marathon Sports which is the best place to get running shoes in my opinion. They watch the way you walk and run and offer you the shoe that is right for your alignment. You don’t get to choose based on color or style. I was happy with these though, I’ve never had pink before!

With my pretty new “kicks” as Darin calls them, I walked to Whole Foods for lunch and some necessities. Whole Foods is a car ride or bus ride away for me so since I was in the area I decided it was worth it and I would treat myself to a fun lunch. I decided to get some items from the deli since the salad bar was lacking in exciting choices. I got to pick three for the Vegetarian plate. I started with the Golden Beets:

And moved onto the Zucchini Parmesan Latkes:

And added an old favorite: cranberry cous cous.

The final addition made the meal which was a small cup of curried pumpkin apple soup. All together this meal was heaven. I am not exaggerating the flavors were awesome in each one of the dishes and I especially liked dipping the latke in the soup.

The golden beets were awesome as well. I need to figure out how to make this at home. A truly satisfying, filling, and autumn inspired meal.

  6. [...] Sunday morning began with an early (before breakfast!) run. I don’t normally exercise on an empty stomach since I have heard that this can be counter productive. I did manage to get in a half a banana and a little bit of soy nut butter (not pictured) before hitting the pavement. This held me over nicely and made the run enjoyable, not unbearable like it can be when you are really hungry! I think the quality of my run also had something to do with the beautiful scenery and my brand new Mizuno’s! I love the new color and can’t believe that I lasted this long! [...]
